Lawrence J. "Larry" Seifring. Age 88, of Louisville.
Lawrence was born on August 15, 1924 in Sharpsburg, Ohio to the late John J. and Rose (Kramer) Seifring. On July 24, 1974 he married Joy-Elizabeth Bingham Smith. His former wife Esther M. Sands preceded him in death in 1985.
Lawrence was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and life member of Disabled American Veterans. He served in 9th Division 60th Infantry and was seriously wounded in The Battle of St. Lo, France. He participated in Honor Flight in 2011 and he was a true hero for our country and to his family.
Lawrence was the operator/owner of Seifring Trucking, Inc. in Buckner, KY. He served his county in the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and American Theatre Ribbon.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joy in 2012, a son Jay D. Smith,one grandson Dallas Seifring of Louisville, granddaughter Tracey Thompson of Minneapolis, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by three daughters Patricia (Fred) Delmenhorst of Milwaukee, WI, Carolyn (Robert) Thompson of Minneapolis, MN, Mary (Billy) Smothers of Henryville, IN; and two sons Lawrence J. Seifring and Steven J. Smith of Louisville; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; four sisters Lorena Frilling of St. Marys, OH, Pauline Kunk of Scottsdale, AZ, Delores Hemmelgarn of Burketsville, OH and Barbara Winner of Osgood, OH; and one brother Wilburt Siefring of Louisville, KY.
Memorials can be made to the DAV or Wounded Warriors or Cedar Lake Lodge.
Visitation will be Wednesday July 17, 2013 from 4-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville,Ky 40243. Service will be Thursday July 18, 2013 at 10:30am with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central at 2pm.
