Lawrence Anderson Dickey, Sr., 79, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. Lawrence was a loving husband to his wife for 55 years, a devoted father and grandfather to his seven children, a wonderful father-in-law, an amazing grandfather and great-grandfather, a great uncle and a wonderful man. Lawrence was a true family man and was loved by everyone that met him. He was a Christian by faith and loved his family, especially entertaining with them. Lawrence will be remember for his wonderful gift of singing. He managed a group called Time to Shine and helped them win many Black expo's at Louisville Gardens for two years in a row. He was an alumni of Central High School and retired from Wohlleb's Bakery where he truly loved his career. He spent 20 years as a manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Lawrence will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was born on January 28, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky to John and Nellie (Brown) Dickey. He is preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Mae Dickey; father, John Edward Dickey; wife, Bertha Lavan Dickey; son, Darrell Dickey; grandson, Davon Dickey; great-grandchildren, Ronquesha Johnson, Keron Johnson; brothers, Charles Dickey, Norman Dickey; aunts, Mary Dickey, Mattie Sims; mother-in-law, Pearl Smith; father-in-law, Thomas Smith, Jr. nephews, David Dickey, James Dickey; brothers-in-law, Thomas Smith, Charles Kennedy, James Kennedy; sisters-in-law, Lula Mae (Thomas) Clenedening, and Louise Jarmon.
Lawrence is survived by his family, daughter, Elsie Strong; son, Lawrence Dickey, Jr.; daughter, Roberta (Mark) Rogers; daughter, Dadrea (Tony) Clayton; son, John Dickey; son, Dennis (Renee) Dickey; special son, Sam Allen; sisters-in-law, Barbara Dickey, Joanne Kennedy; brothers-in-law, John (Gloria) Tapscott, Richard Lee (Nebra) Smith; childhood friend, Howard Breckenridge; dog, Uno; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends to cherish his loving memory forever.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Green Meadows Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
