Laurel Marie Gatrost, age 82, was born in Taylorsville, Kentucky on October 22, 1940 and transitioned peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James Orville Hilbert and Nancy Catherine Stout; and her husband, Douglas M. Gatrost. She is survived by her four children, Stacey Gatrost, Bruce Gatrost, Brett Gatrost (Sheila Gabaree), David Durrett (Christy Smith); and her sister, Edna (Frank) Wallace. She has 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Marie loved and derived a lot of joy from her cats that she referred to as her kids and watching the birds flock around the bird bath and feeders in her yard and seeing the small wildlife scamper and frolic around her home. Her face would light up while feeding geese and ducks that would instinctively run to her from across the park as soon as she got out of the car.
Her kids and grandchildren were the highlight of her life and the love for her family was immeasurable. Her talents were many, but most notably her gift of turning an uncomely house into a beautiful and tastefully decorated home.
