Laura Brown Swenson, 77, of Louisville passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her residence.
Laura was born in Paducah, Kentucky on May 6, 1944, but grew up in Hodgenville, Kentucky, having graduated from Larue County High School in 1962 where she was a majorette and flute player in the band.
A 1980 graduate of Elizabethtown Community College, she was a registered nurse, having worked at St. Clair Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky, Norton Suburban Hospital, the American Red Cross, and Jewish Hospital, all in Louisville
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, R. Jewell and Gladys Brown of Hodgenville, her husband Jack Swenson of Louisville, and a stepson Christopher Swenson.
She is survived by a son, Robert Grubbs, and grandson, Kyle Grubbs, both of Louisville. She is also survived by cousins Rose Marie Guy of Louisville and Don Middleton of Boulder, Colorado, and their families.
Laura had been active in many churches throughout the years, particularly in the music ministry, singing alto in various choirs and playing her flute and handbells. She was also a past Deacon at Melbourne Heights Baptist Church in Louisville and was most recently a member of Hikes Point Christian church in Louisville.
Laura loved to cook, and though decades apart, was an active participant in both the Larue County High School and Seneca High Band Boosters
Laura always tried to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and was known for her special love for animals. A self-professed "Crazy Cat Lady" her wish is that any condolences go in the form of a donation to your local Humane Society or Animal Shelter.
As per her request, there will be no public service. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
