Laura Pearl Melcher

Laura Pearl Melcher, 91, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023. Pearl was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. She was a lifelong seamstress, both professionally and for enjoyment. She handmade many of the wedding and bridal party dresses for her family over the years. She was also a talented quilter and made many heirloom quilts for her loved ones to enjoy. Pearl also loved all animals, especially her constant companion, Foxy.

She was born on October 18, 1931, to Robert and Dorotha (Lopp) Money. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Charles Melcher; and 6 siblings.

Pearl is survived by her daughter, Mary Mason; daughter, Kathy (Chris) Dowdle; son, Charles (Gina) Melcher; son, Carl (Carol) Melcher; daughter, Julie (Russ) Nelson; 9 siblings; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many more extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.

The family requests that contributions in Pearl's memory be made to First Baptist Church (813 East Spring Street New Albany, IN 47150).
