Larry Donell Willingham

November 17, 1950 — March 1, 2024

Larry Donell Willingham was born on November 17, 1950 to the union of Mack F. Willingham and Sarah L. Lacey Willingham in Fayette County, Alabama. He was a member of the Temple Star Baptist Church in Vernon, Alabama and was baptized into Christ during his youth.

He graduated from Todd High School in Vernon, Alabama in 1969. After graduating high school, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia and then later moved to Louisville, Kentucky. He served in the US Army in the 1970s as a Food Service Specialist 92G known as an Army Cook. He was responsible for providing meals to thousands of soldiers during his tour of duty. He also served in the Vietnam War. Before and after his military service, he was a long-haul truck driver for over 40 years. His CB radio handle was "empty pockets".

His favorite pastimes were working on cars with his best friend Jessie at Jessie's garage, talking about cars, watching cowboy movies (i.e. Westerns), drinking Pepsi, and listening to Johnny Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Charlene Haley and Varnita Willingham and two brothers, Lynnwood Willingham and MacAurther Willingham, and his daughter, Geia Corbin.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mildred Terrell Willingham, two sisters, Barbara Williams and Alice Spears, three brothers, Paul (Betty) Willingham, Johnny (Carolyn) Willingham, Onnie Lee (Gloria) Willingham, four daughters, Stacy (Craig) Olmstead, Briana Willingham, Tiondra Willingham, and Larrica Willingham, three step-daughters, Tamara Marsh, Cynthia Arrington, Tarita (Tony) Burton, six grandchildren, Amanda, Cadence, Riley, Craig, Naavah, and Eliana and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery (Central) in Radcliff, Kentucky.
