Larry Clayton Wells, a cherished family man and devoted member of his community, passed away on April 4, 2025, in New Albany, Indiana, at the age of 85. Born on March 4, 1940, in Louisville, Kentucky, Larry would go on to lead a life marked by love, service, and dedication.
A graduate of New Albany High School, Larry began a distinguished career at Ford Motor Company, where he spent 33 years working with diligence and pride. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were matched only by his deep devotion to serving the Lord. Larry was an active member of Faith Assembly Church in Clarksville, Indiana, where he found joy in fellowship and worship.
Larry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, enlisting on July 16, 1958. Over the course of his service, he rose to the rank of E-5 and was honored with the Good Conduct Medal, reflecting his commitment to duty. He was honorably discharged on March 19, 1963, carrying with him a lifelong sense of pride in his service.
In addition to his professional and military accomplishments, Larry was a man of many interests. He found creativity in woodworking and demonstrated a passion for music by playing the guitar. He enjoyed the thrill of riding motorcycles and bicycles, sharing these experiences with family and friends.
Above all, Larry's greatest pride was his family. On November 14, 1958, he married the love of his life, Priscilla Janice Wells, and together they created a warm and loving home for their four children, Lauri, Dana, Mark, and Tim. Larry's family was his world, and his legacy continues through his children: Lauri Northcutt and Tim (Melissa) Wells; and his grandchildren: Amanda (Ben) Polston, Shelby Zoellers, Megan (Tony) Jurewicz, Kelsey Humphrey, Zachary and Jacob Wells, Matt McNeil, Mindy (Derek) Crawford, Hannah (Jeremy) Crase, Ashleigh (Gabe) Johnson, and Madalyn Wells. His loving impact extends to his great-grandchildren: Gabrielle and Peyton Polston, Braxton, Connor, and Kingston Wells, Jackson, Lincoln Tinsley, and Briar Wells, Mason and Wesley Crase, and Hayley and Will Jurewicz, as well as Callie, Maci, Zoey, and Ellie Crawford.
Larry is also remembered fondly by his niece, Tammy Basham; nephew, Joe Borden; son-in-law, Kevin Humphrey; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Wells.
Larry is predeceased by his loving wife, Priscilla Janice Wells, daughter Dana Elaine Humphrey, son Mark Wayne Wells, granddaughter Brittany Wells.
The memories of Larry's kindness, faith, and loving spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, both at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana in New Albany, Indiana. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the same location. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Larry Clayton Wells lived a life rich with love and purpose, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
