Larry Lee "Goose" Johnson, 88, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 10, 2023. He was born on July 20 1935 in Borden, where he grew up until he moved to the family farm in Washington County in 1945. Larry attended Borden High School and enjoyed playing basketball.
He went on to attend Ball State Teacher's College and was a member of the Indiana National Guard for nine years. After returning home, he attended Tri-City Barber College in Louisville. Larry worked along with his father, Zene, as a barber in Borden until 2005. His teaching career included Corydon, Borden, Henryville and Silver Creek. He coached basketball at Borden and Henryville, coached Clarksville Little League Softball and taught driver's education for 22 years.
Larry was the author of Bordenites, Berries and Braves and The Echoes of Silver Valley. He served as the secretary and treasurer for Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Association. Larry was a member of the Borden Lions Club and Borden Historical Society.
Larry married Wanda Hurley on August 20, 1960 and they shared 58 years together. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zene and Faith (Gray) Johnson; his wife, Wanda; and life-long friend, Larry Conrad.
He is survived by his daughters, Lory Adams (Chuck), Christy Johnson, Joanna Foushee (Russell); grandchildren, Jamie Mills, Sydney Sumner, Irish Sumner, Jack Foushee; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Ashlyn, Sicily, Brady, Willow; siblings, Sid Johnson, Lynn Beckett; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Eddie Freiberger; as well as several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Borden.
