Larry G. Gross Sr., 68, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Larry was a dedicated and hard-working man, whose life was filled with moments of joy and passion for the things he loved. He found great pleasure in fishing with his brothers and friends, and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Larry was a fan of UK Basketball and embraced his competitive spirit while playing horseshoes and pool. His conservative political values were evident in his admiration for our current president.
Born on March 13, 1956, in Hazard, Kentucky, Larry was the son of Johnny Gross and Bertha Couch. He spent his career devoted to serving the community, working as a sanitation engineer for the city of New Albany, Indiana Homes Sanitation, BFI Sanitation, and later retiring as a truck driver for Waste Management of Louisville.
Larry shared a deep bond with his family; he was especially proud of his great-granddaughter, Lili, who was the light of his life. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lena Gross; his daughter, Chasidy Lawless; his son, Larry (Melissa) Gross, Jr.; and his special daughter, Michelle (Angela) Gilbert. Larry cherished his grandchildren, Robert (Kim) Lawless, Joshua Coomer, Taylor Dyer, Kaedyn Frasher, and Malia Fields. He is also survived by his brother, Odell (Helen) Gross; his sisters, Geneva (Roger) Gross and Wanda Taylor; and his brother, Bill (Marsha) Lawless, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Gross; his mother, Bertha Couch; his brothers, Melvin Gross, William Gross, Raliegh Gross, and Burley Gross; as well as his second mother, Donna Lawless.
Larry's family invites friends to visit from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN 47150. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Burial to follow at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park. Larry will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, the love he had for his family, and the memories he created along the way.
