Larry Eugene Akers, Sr.

Larry Eugene Akers, Sr., 76, of Byrdstown, Tennessee, formerly of his hometown, New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman that never met a stranger. He made the best of every day that was given to him and was someone that you genuinely enjoyed being around. Above all, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was born on May 18, 1946, in New Albany to Robert and Elizabeth (Kron) Akers. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy, David, Bobby, and Thomas Akers; and sister, Mary Ellenbrand.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette "Shelly" (Ham) Akers; daughter, Christina (Thomas) Kennedy; sons, Michael Akers and Larry Akers, Jr.; brother-in-law, Donnie Ellenbrand; nine grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Monday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.

Contributions in Larry's memory may be made to the charity of donor's choice or to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
