Kenneth E. Popp

Kenneth E. Popp, 90, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away at Maple Manor Christian Nursing Home in Sellersburg on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Ken was a proud veteran of the United States Army, who served during the Korean War. He was a longtime member and usher at St. Mary Catholic Church in New Albany and a member of the St Mary's Men's Club and Knights of Columbus Cardinal Ritter Council 1221. Ken was a longtime partner in Popp Bros Construction, retired from Cave Hill Cemetery, and was a part-time mason for the Catholic Cemeteries of Louisville. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved driving trucks, golfing and playing softball, and his cactus collection.

He was born on October 1, 1932, in Bennettsville, Indiana, to the late George Popp and Esther (Bauer) Popp. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, George Popp and James Popp; sister, Mary Jean Popp; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Popp, Raylauna Popp, and Mary Jean Popp; and grandson, Seth Woodard.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Ruth (Schad) Popp; children, Kenneth W. (Teri) Popp, Kevin Popp, Cindy Bowling, and Christopher (Linda) Popp; grandchildren, Justin Popp (Megan), Brandon Popp, Joseph (Brittany) Popp, Dominic Geary, Zachary Woodard (Tiffany Lynch), Caleb (Liz) Popp, and Colton Popp; great-grandchildren, Eric S. Popp (Sarah), Nicholas Popp, Shelby Popp, Grayson Popp, Peyton Popp, Wyatt Woodard, and Tilly Mae Woodard. Siblings, Merlin (Betty) Popp, Maurice (Lelia) Popp, Joanie (Harold) Renn, Bill Popp, Esther (David) Wheatley, and Barbara Beavin.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Prayer service and memory sharing to begin at 7:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church (415 E. 8th Street, New Albany) with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ken's memory may be made to St. Mary or St Joe Catholic Cemeteries Perpetual Care Funds, Habitat for Humanity, Down Syndrome of Louisville, Kentucky Alzheimer's Association, or Wounded Warrior Project.
