Katie Marie Smith

Katie Marie Gross Smith, age 86 passed away on May 22, 2024 at Forest Hills Commons in Louisville, Kentucky. Born in Bowling Green, KY to the late Anthony and Elizabeth Baxter Gross she moved to the Okolona area where she met and married her husband of 62 years, James Porter Smith of Horse Cave, KY. After raising three children she worked full-time for JCPS in Food Services for 20 years until retiring. She was a faithful member of Green Acres Baptist Church, singing in the choir and teaching in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School regularly. After retirement she spent most of her time traveling around the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe with church members and family until the death of her husband, James Porter Smith in 2019.

Katie leaves behind three children, Rebecca (Steve) Moore, James (Cathy) Smith II, and Brenda (Mike) Lunn; five grandchildren, Brandi (David) Rivera,Jordan (Haley) Smith, Justin (Kristen) Smith, Joshua (Tonya) Lunn, Aaron (Stephanie) Lunn. And five Great-Grandchildren: Alexis, Avelina, Jonah, Cyrus and Damien; and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 10am to 11:30am on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. A celebration of Katie's life will be held there at 11:30am. Burial will follow at 2:30pm Eastern Time, 1:30pm Central Time at Horse Cave Cemetery, Horse Cave, Kentucky.
