Kathryn "Kathy" Wilson dedicated wife, wonderful mother of 2, grandmother of 5 and friend to many — passed away on November 7, 2022 at the age of 77 in her home in Louisville, KY.
Kathy was born in Durham, NC on February 4,1945. Her family settled in Indianapolis, IN where she graduated from Shortridge High School. She then went to Vincennes University where she met the love of her life, Wayne, and was a cheerleader cheering for Wayne on the basketball court. They married in 1966 and eventually settled in Louisville, KY.
There in Louisville, daughters Amy and Sara were born. Kathy spent the early years home with her daughters. She volunteered at school with the PTA, was a Girl Scout leader, as well as taught dance aerobics and little ones gymnastics. Kathy had a love for dancing with Wayne and her girls. Many hours were spent dancing in the living room. One dance we can definitely remember is doing the Charleston. Kathy passed her love of dance and cheerleading to her girls as they spent countless hours making up dance routines with each other and their friends and then were cheerleaders in middle and high school. As the girls became older, she worked as an office manager before retiring. When she wasn't working, she spent her time attending every event her daughters participated in and was one of their biggest cheerleaders (just not usually as loud as Wayne). Later, she turned her cheerleading attention to her grandchildren where she and Wayne attended as many events as they could.
Kathy is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne. They spent nearly sixty years together and passed away only eighteen days apart. Although it is extremely difficult for those left behind, we are relieved they are now at peace and eternally together dancing to their Motown favorites.
Kathy is survived by their children Amy Coombs (John) and Sara Rhodes (Glenn); and their five grandchildren, Keenan, Harper, Sarai, Wilson and Laurel; and a host of relatives and friends.
Kathy will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Visitation for both Kathy and Wayne will be from 2 to 3pm on Saturday, November 12, 2022 with a celebration of their lives at 3pm, all at The Sanctuary at All Peoples Unitarian Universalist Church which is located at 4936 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40222.
Memorial donations can be made to Hosparus Health of Louisville. Sara and Amy didn't know much about hospice care until recently, but they were a great help and comfort to us for both Mom and Dad. Our family will be forever grateful.
