Karen McFelia Jarvis, 63, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 25, 2011. Karen had formerly worked as a Deputy Fire Marshall and social services employee for the state of Kentucky and had served as Volunteer Coordinator for Hazelwood Hospital in Louisville. She had been a reading monitor at American Printing House for the Blind in Louisville and worked at Green Acres Day Care and Noe Middle School as a substitute teacher. She acquired a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Louisville, attended Kentucky Southern College, and was a 1965 graduate of DuPont Manual High School. She was a member of Rockford Lane Baptist Church and a former member of Ninth and O, Harmony, and Fairmount Baptist Churches. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Bowling McFelia and Doris Jean Leaf Underwood.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Perry Jarvis Hunter; granddaughter, Whitney Michele Jarvis; stepmother, LaGrada Allen McFelia; sisters, Sandy McFelia Bayens, Ruth McFelia Lewis, and Renee Blakey Brooks; brother, Shannon Blakey; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 3rd, at 4:00 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown, KY. Visitation will precede the memorial service from 12 – 4 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to The Healing Place or St. Vincent DePaul, located in Louisville, KY.
