Juanita F. (Brown) Dooley, 91, of New Albany, IN, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2011. She grew up in the Salem, IN area around Short's Corner. Juanita was a proud Army veteran of WWII. She was a member of the American Legion Post 28 Bonnie Sloan and a VA Medical Center in Louisville Outstanding Volunteer, logging over 18,000 hours of service to other veterans. Juanita was also the first female Commander for the state of Indiana Disabled American Veterans. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a Sagamore of the Wabash.
Juanita was born on September 12, 1920 in Allenville, IL to the late Robert and Mary Jane (Sweeney) Brown. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Charles and Robert Brown, Anna Harsh, Evelyn Miller, Ellen Prather, and Frances Pickerill.
She is survived by her children, Ruth Ann Floyd of New Albany, Richard Cooper (Mary) of Palmyra, Norma Bell of Floyds Knobs, Norman Dooley of New Albany; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12 to 8 PM Monday, January 2, 2012 and 10 AM to 12 PM Tuesday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at Noon on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to take place at a later date in the New Albany National Cemetery.
