Joyce Weiss, beloved mother of five, passed away on November 15, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength. Born on November 14, 1930, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Joyce's journey was marked by resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her family.
Joyce's early years were spent in Milwaukee, where she began to shape the remarkable woman she would become. Her family later moved to Highland Park, Illinois, where Joyce graduated from Highland Park High School in 1948. Driven by a passion for knowledge, she pursued higher education at Northwestern University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952.
Joyce's greatest joy in life was her family. She was the proud mother of five children, each of whom brought immeasurable happiness to her heart. She is survived by her children, Carin McClelland (Tom), Susan Weiss (Chet Miller), Mary Brady (Bernie), John Weiss (Jody), and Michael Weiss; her grandchildren, Annie Burt (Jared), Laura Joella (Dane), Joseph McCelland, Brittany Roy (Bryan), Leah Weiss, and Joseph Weiss; great grandchildren, Jade, Scarlet, Charlotte,Violet, and Gibson; her sister, Shelia Ozmina; and her nephew, Martin Ozmina.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Jeness Lynch and father, Francis Joseph Lynch.
In addition to her dedication to family, Joyce found fulfillment in her love for biology, a passion she cultivated during her time at Northwestern University. Her inquisitive mind and love for learning were qualities she shared.
Joyce's love for animals, particularly horses, was a defining aspect of her life. An avid equestrian, she competed in dressage, hunter jumpers and fox hunting. She continued to ride into her 90's. Joyce was deeply committed to science and the natural world. Her enthusiasm for these subjects was shared generously with her family and extended to the young minds she guided through the Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops. Her legacy lives on in the appreciation for nature that she instilled in others.
Joyce was a member of Simpsonville Methodist Church where she attended with her daughter, Susan and husband Chet.
