Joyce Hockersmith

Joyce Hockersmith, 99, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024. 

She was born on March 23, 1925 in Hart County, Kentucky to the late Jeff and Mary (Taylor) Staples. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jennings Hockersmith, siblings, Geraldine Wilson, Jeff Staples Jr., Helen Dye, Ella Ruth Staples, John Staples and Gayle Hawkinberry. 

Throughout her life, Joyce demonstrated an unwavering spirit, characterized by her strong will, determination, and self-direction. After embarking on her career as a secretary at AJ Seebring Company, she dedicated many years of service to Dupont Chemical Plant, eventually becoming the dental office manager for both Dr. Cullen and Dr. Arnett. Joyce's professional journey reflected her entrepreneurial spirit; she took great pride in selling products for well-known brands such as Avon, Tupperware, Fashion Two Twenty, Decorama, World Book, and Mary Kay.

Joyce’s devotion to her family was paramount. Together with her husband, the late Edward Jennings Hockersmith, she created a magical childhood for their children, instilling values and traditions that will be treasured.

Joyce is survived by her loving sons, Edward Jay Hockersmith, Timothy Jennings Hockersmith, grandsons, Adam Hockersmith, Tyler Hockersmith, great-granddaughter, Alexis Hockersmith, sister, Ann (Gary) Logsdon and brother, James (Betty) Staples. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243). 

Visitation will also be from 9:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
