Joyce Burgess

Joyce G. Burgess peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 2, 2025. She was born and resided in Louisville, KY most of her life. Joyce was known best for her love of family, friends, and fur babies.

She attended Ballard high school and went on to study social work in college. While in school, she was a part of the ecology club and the Fairness campaign. Joyce worked as a talented florist. She went on to volunteer at the Center of Women and Families and continued to play a vital role in equality movements throughout her lifetime.

She is preceded in death by her husband Shawn Mc Gill, parents, Guy and Elizabeth Burgess, sister Rachel Brown, and nephew, Kyle Brown. She is survived by sisters, Janet Ciresi (Terry) and Jean Welch, daughters, Victoria "Tori" Thornsberry (Christopher) and Alexandria "Ali" Kannenberg (William), grandchildren- Patrick Morris, Hayden Morris, Andrew Burgin, Lydia Wylie, Harmony Kannenberg, Sadie Burgin, Lena Kannenberg, and Lelan. She also had 4 great grandchildren- Khaleesi, Hazel, Eli, and Genesis Morris.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 pm on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).

The family requests that contributions in Joyce’s memory be made to the Center for Woman and Families (927 S 2nd St, Louisville, KY 40203).
