Joseph "Joey" Barney Smith III, 68, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023.
He was born on August 25, 1954 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to late Joseph Smith and Lutie (Kidwell) S. Taylor. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Anitonette Taylor.
Joey was a graduate of Eastern High School. He also attended Western Kentucky University where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha. He worked as a barber at Tyler & Baker barbershop. He had a love for the stock market and became very savvy with his trading abilities. Joey truly lived life to the fullest: traveling to many countries and cities, scuba diving, sky diving, boating, Tai chi, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as the historian of the family. You could rest assure that anytime you saw Joey he would be in camouflage attire accompanied by a backwards ball cap and cowboy boots. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
Joey is survived by his loving sisters, Toni Renee' Coleman (Michael Staples), Jerri Smith Anderson (Victor), Kim Michelle McDaniels (William), brothers, Charles Taylor (Lisa), Juan Kellar, nieces, Lindsey Stewart (Alejandro), Angela Zanders (Carlon), Brooke Brown (Trey), Lydia Murphy (Reinaldo) and great-nieces and nephews, Johanna, Isaiah, Joshua, Kensington, Holland, Maddison, Zoë, Sebastian and Zachariah. He is also survived by his uncle Milton Smith and a host of cousins and friends.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 11am-1pm until the time of the memorial service at 1pm Brownsboro Baptist Church (7435 Brownsboro Alt Route, Crestwood, KY 40014).
The family requests that contributions in Joey's memory be made to Brownsboro Baptist Church and/or KODA (Kentucky Organ Donation Association).
