Joseph R. Atkins, 80, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013. He enjoyed fishing and was proud of his service in the United States Army.
Joe was born on June 27, 1932 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to the late Franklin and Olevia (Becht) Atkins. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Marie Stumler (Lester), and his stepdaughter, Joyce Gore.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Delcie "Dot" (Monhollen) Atkins; siblings, Franklin Atkins (Shirley), Paul Atkins (Donna), Martha Missi (Paul), John Atkins (Angie), Janet Schuler (Allen); grandsons, Calvin and Jonathan Gore; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Parker, and Cecilia Gore.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 8 PM Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
Contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Newborn Full Gospel Church (1022 Silver Street, New Albany, IN 47150).
