Joseph "Mike" Nelson

Joseph "Mike" Michael Nelson, 58, of Louisville, passed away October 29, 2013 with his wife and sister by his side.

Mike was born July 6, 1955 in Chester, PA to the late George and Clare Nelson. Mike proudly served in the United States Air Force for 3 years and later the United States Army for 17 years and was honorably discharged when he retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He was a member of the VFW Post 8639. He and his wife Charlene spent 23 wonderful years together and loved camping, boating, fishing, and barbequing. He also enjoyed the ocean, having grown up nearby. Mike was an avid wrestling and a Washington Redskins fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother George Nelson.
Mike is survived by his wife Charlene Nelson; sons Benjamin (Bianca) and Zachary Nelson; sister Joanne Clare; step-mother Margaret Nelson; 4 nephews and 1 great-niece and 1 great-nephew; and a host of other family members.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southwest Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy). Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 11:00am, also at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
