Joseph Ray Jones, 90, passed away December 2, 2011.

He was born in Murray, Kentucky on October 13, 1921, to Stanley and Mary Lottie Jones. Joseph was a graduate of Kirksey High School, attended Murray State University, served in the Signal Corps of the US Army during WWII and on June 17, 1942 he married Myrtle Parks. He also once resided in Detroit and Dearborn Michigan and worked at Fabricon Products in Research and Development (developed a process for making low pressure plastic dishes and developed the materials used to make the heat shield for John Glenn's space craft). With his brother, James, he went into the grocery business in Brandenburg (they had four stores and an AM/ FM radio station). Joseph was part of several civil organizations during his business years and has now been retired for 23 years.

Joseph was an active member of FBC Wayne, MI., FBC Brandenburg, KY., FBC Franklin, KY., FBC Bowling Green, KY., FBC Murray, Severns Valley Baptist Church, Elizabethtown and Westport Road Baptist Church, Louisville. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and did outreach visitations. Joseph supported mission causes, went to Kenya, Africa on a mission trip and served on many different boards and committees.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leon Jones and is survived by his wife, Myrtle I. Parks Jones; his children, Randall Jones (Sherry) of LaGrange, KY., Marsha Rudolph of Irvington, KY.; grandchildren, Kevin Jones (Kathy) of Independence, KY., Rhonda Jones of Concord, NC., Danny Board (Jackie) of Vine Grove, KY., and Derrick Board (Bethany) of Guston, KY.; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Paige Jones, George, Maggie, Danny Joe, John William, Caleb, Andrew and Sophia Board; brother James L. Jones of Elizabethtown, KY.

Funeral Ceremony will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Westport Road Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 pm at the church. Online condolences may be made at www.newcomerlouisville.com.
