Joseph M. Dukes, a cherished member of the Louisville community, passed away peacefully in his sleep December 1, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on October 23, 1936, in Greenville, Kentucky, Joseph’s journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family, his profession, and his many interests.
Joseph was a graduate of DuPont Manual High School and went on to establish a successful career as an owner and partner of several land surveying and engineering firms. His business acumen and commitment to quality earned him the respect and admiration of his peers in the industry.
Known for his patient and quiet demeanor, Joseph was loved by both friends and family. He was an avid golfer and cherished the moments spent at the lake with family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be fondly remembered. A devoted fan of the University of Louisville, Joseph displayed an unwavering loyalty that endeared him to fellow supporters.
His proudest accomplishments were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply. He is survived by his son, Gary Dukes (Angela); his daughter, Michelle Durbin (Patrick); and his son, Greg Dukes (Lynette). In addition to his children, he is remembered by his beloved grandchildren: Nathan Dukes (Stephanie), Ryan Dukes (Brittany), Maranda Taylor (Justin), Jason Durbin, Andy Durbin (Ashley), Samantha Dukes, and Darrin Dukes (Kaylin). Joseph was also blessed with great-grandchildren Cora, Bella, Landon, Savannah, Scarlett, Tinley, Piper, Emma, Jackson, and Jonah.
Apart from his immediate family, Joseph is survived by his sisters, Jane Denham and Ruth Thacker, and his brother, Ron Dukes (Vicki).
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara A. (Miller) Dukes, whose memory he treasured until his final moments. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Ferman and Gladys (McCauley) Dukes, and his brothers and sister, J.W., Melvin, Marvin, Harold, Patricia, and Donald.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held on December 7, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243. The visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by the celebration at 4:00 PM.
Joseph M. Dukes leaves behind a legacy of love, respect, and integrity, remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
