Joseph Edward Carroll, Jr.

Joseph Edward Carroll, Jr., 85, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1956 and went on to attend Indiana University, where he became the captain of the Track and Field team. Joe graduated from college in 1960 with a degree in Education and later obtained his Masters degree from IU in 1972. He retired from teaching and went on to have a second career at Sonoco in New Albany. He was the first golf and swim team coach at Floyd Central High School, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing the guitar, making homemade wine, and watching his granddaughter play golf.

He was born on June 14, 1937, in New Albany, Indiana. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, Sr., and Martha (Loebig) Carroll and Seona (Bohannon) and Edward Cook; first wife, Sunnye Carroll; and sons, Steven and Matt Carroll.

Joe is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Marla (North) Carroll; sons, Andy, Dennis (Shannon), and Austin Carroll; grandchildren, Alex Petty (Dustin) and Avery Carroll; great-grandchildren, Trenton and Jada; siblings, Charles, Marlene, Debbie, and Rhonda; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane) and on Friday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with cremation to follow.
