Jose Enrique Gonzalez, 71, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018. He had been an accountant for Kindred Healthcare and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Jose was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a past member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church. He was an avid blood donor and enjoyed running blood drives and going for a walk in the park.
He was born on February 6, 1946, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to the late Eugenio and Generosa (Ortiz) Gonzalez. Jose was also preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene and Reuben Gonzalez.
Jose is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary C. (Brown) Gonzalez; children, Elizabeth, Charles, and Emily Gonzalez; grandchild, Tremaine Gonzalez; and siblings, George, Vilma, Carmen, Evelyn, Raul, and Rosa.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany) with entombment and military honors to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Albany.
