Jon Childress

June 19, 1962 — February 9, 2022

Jonathan (Jon / Jonnie) Lin Childress, 59, born June 19, 1962 in Louisville, KY went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior; to live for eternity in Heaven, on February 9th 2022.

Jon was a member of Grace Crossing Church, where he served as an elder. Jonnie was a loyal son, Loving brother/brother-in-law, brave soldier, talented football player, devoted, fun-loving and hilariously funny Uncle, a faithful friend, a beloved cousin to a multitude, and most of all, a steadfast Christian. He was a mentor and coach to so many, maintaining that role throughout their lives. Jon was a pillar of the community. He graduated from Valley High School in 1980, where he played football, was a member of the marching band and wrestling team. He played semi pro football for The Louisville Bulls. He served in the United States Army from 1982 to 1988. Jon was the former President of Southwest Youth Sports where he coached football, baseball and basketball as well. He was the cofounder of Friends without addresses, a homeless ministry. Jon was well known for surviving a wrestling match with a bear at 84 lumber in his teen years.

Preceded in death is, his Father and Mother James & Edna Childress, Niece Paige Powell, and longtime friend Pam Knoop. He is survived by brother Jim Childress (Missy), Bonnie Powell (David), Michele Paris (Rick), His twin sister Jackie Walker (Vincent), Melissa Upton (Rick), Bobbi Mitchell (Tommy). His pride and joy were his nieces & nephews:Jon, Desiree, Maya, Sean, Owen, James, Grayson, Ruger, Ethan, Leslie & Annika Childress, Ny' Gerald Carter, Katy, Shane & Kane Nusbaum, Stefani, Brianna & Ethan Coy, Tommy & Thomas Telando. Visitation will take place from 3pm-8pm on Friday, February 18, 2022 and Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 12pm-3pm at Grace Crossing Church (6107 Ashby Lane). A service honoring his life will take place on Saturday at 3pm at his church. He will be laid to rest and receive military honors on March 9, 2022 at 2:30pm in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, Ky.
