John Bratton was always up for a good challenge. He is now resting peacefully and comfortably after several months of battling an accumulation of complicated ailments, pancreatic cancer being the number one villain. He took his last breath and left our earthly world on Friday, Aug 10, 2012 @ 1:45 am at Norton Brownsboro Hospital with his loving wife by his side, holding his hand and repeatedly expressing her deep and sincere love for him.
John was born on March 3, 1949 to Albert "Bill" and Cora (Westbrook) Bratton, who have both preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Judy (Lee) Bratton; and older brother Ronald & his wife Rometa; niece Angela, and nephew Kirk & his wife Lori and their little girl Emma plus a multitude of friends. He started his career path at Ahrens Trade School where his love for working on anything electrical and computers blossomed. He owned his own business, a TV repair shop, for a short period of time. He moved on to the computer world and landed a job at Four-Phase (now Motorola) where he met his wife by an odd method of introduction, on the phone. Part of his time at Motorola was spent in GA where he won the hearts of a whole new circle of friends. Back in Louisville, he continued his computer journey at NPC / Bank of America and most recently Humana. Throughout John's life he was a compassionate man who enjoyed living life to the fullest, no matter what "bumps in the road" were presented to him, and his illness was no exception. He never met a "stranger," and the word "grudge" was never a part of his vocabulary. John inspired family loyalty to everyone he met. Whether they listened to him or not was their decision. He will be greatly missed by ALL of his friends and family. He will especially be missed by his wife and CA family, namely his Auntie Shirley and her 2 girls Terri and Tammy. Auntie Shirley warmly referred to John as her "Huggie Bear" since day 1 and thought of him as her "favorite nephew."
John's VISITATION will be held Thurs 8/16/2012 between 4 – 7 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home; 235 Juneau Drive; Lou, KY 40243. He has decided to be cremated. His CELEBRATION of LIFE / MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Sat 8/18/2012 at 4:00 – at Okolona Church of Christ; 6105 Outer Loop; Lou, KY 40219.
His wife wishes to express deepest appreciation and special thanks to John's oncology team and their staff: Dr Gary Vitale and Dr Thomas Woodcock. She would also like to thank Kerry Kentworth, Chaplain at Brownsboro Hospital who spent many hours at the hospital with John and Judy before and after his passing. A HUGE expression of gratitude also goes to the Norton Hospitals Brownsboro and Downtown for their extraordinarily personal attention they showed John while in their care.
