New Albany, Indiana

Johnnie Kay Riley, aged 71, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on October 30, 1953, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, and aunt whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.

Kay was a proud graduate of New Albany High School, class of 1971, and furthered her education at Indiana University Southeast. Throughout her life, she displayed an unwavering commitment to her family and community, which was evident in all she did.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 15 years, Richard Riley, and her stepson, John Riley. Kay’s family also includes her loving sisters, Linda (Chris) Popp and Vicki Pelfrey, along with her cherished niece and nephews, Sarah (Sean), Caleb (Liz), and Colten. She took profound joy in being an aunt, and nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her great nieces, Kaelynn, Emilia, and Skylar.

Kay had a variety of interests that brought joy to her life, including country drives, trips to Florida, and a deep love for music and concerts. Above all, her most treasured moments were those spent surrounded by her family, creating lasting memories and sharing in the joys of life.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine Ballard, and her sister, Joy Ballard. As we remember her legacy, we celebrate a woman who exemplified love, dedication, and joy. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.
