John "Bill" William Stoops, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022.
He was born on April 2, 1941 in Middletown, Kentucky to the late Jesse and Pauline (Walls) Stoops. John and his siblings were raised on a farm in Madison Indiana where the entire family was expected to work hard for the crop yield. He was a country boy determined to advance beyond the farm life. After high school he attended Indiana University where obtained a bachelor's degree in Biology, and was active in the ROTC program.
He joined the United States Air Force after college and served during the Vietnam War. The rest of his military career was served out as a Company Commander of a flight unit at Andrews Air Force Base, where he retired as a Major after 20 years of service. He went on to work for the Veteran Affairs office in Washington DC and retired at an early age to live out his dream of having everyday be like Christmas.
Bill is survived by his sons, Timothy (Stephanie) Stoops, Christopher Stoops, Gregory (Shannon) Stoops, John Jay Stoops, two grandchildren; Zeb John Charles Stoops, Toby James Stoops, three siblings; Ronnie (Debbie) Stoops, Leonard Stoops and Ruby Campbell.
Per Bill's wishes cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
