John Schmitt, Jr.

John Schmitt, Jr., 75, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023. John was outgoing and never met a stranger. He enjoyed going to the casino, telling jokes, all animals, and dinners with family and friends. John started his love for repairing antique clocks, knives, and Bell and Mill slot machines after helping his dad at Jack's Junk Yard in Sellersburg, Indiana. He was a member of the National Knife Association and American Legion Post #204.

John was born on August 9, 1948, in New Albany, Indiana, to John "Jack" and Violet (Cromwell) Schmitt. He is preceded in death by his parents.

John is survived by loving daughter, Melissa Fraley; two grandsons, Darreyl W. Dold, II and Jonathan W. Dold; two sisters, Lana (John) Schmitt Munk and Jennifer (William) Schmitt Bland; best friend, Sandra K. Schmitt; and companion, Rhonda Hummer.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.

The family requests that contributions in John's memory be made to Clark County Humane Society.
