John Robert "Pigeon" Mrkacek, age 86 of Louisville, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late John and Stella Kolasa Mrkacek. He was an Army Korean War Veteran and a triple Purple Heart Recipient. He was an A-class assembler and supervisor with the Allbright-Nell Company. He was an avid gardener, an excellent fisherman, loved animals and was a friend to many. He was also an avid Cubs fan. He was a member of the Middletown Senior Pinochle Group, and was a dedicated scorekeeper for over 22 years. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Leo Mrkacek; and his nephew, Thomas Joseph Mrkacek.
John was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Arlene; children, John, Donald and Jim Mrkacek, Ann M. Salazar, Rose A Izaguirre (John) and Katherine M. Mrkacek (Michelle Brandt); grandchildren, Robert Salazar, Victoria Salazar, Breeana D. Brandt, Christopher J. Covington and Moriah A. Covington; brother, Richard Mrkacek (Antoinette); sister, Mary Lou Frelichowski (Glen); and also a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He also is survived by Bunting, his trusted pup.
Funeral ceremony will be 7pm Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with visitation there from 2pm until time of service. Graveside services will be 10 am Wednesday, August 27th at Louisville Memorial Gardens East.
