John Roger McWhirter, 74, of Floyds Knobs, passed away on June 17, 2012.
John was born on December 16, 1937 in Maysville, Oklahoma, to the late Marion B. and Mary E. (Allen) McWhirter. He was a devout Christian and member of Heartland Nazarene Church in Floyds Knobs. Roger drove many years for American Coach and loved to go RVing as well. He was a member of the Hoosier Knob Antique Car Club and a veteran in the Air National Guard. One year ago, to the day, Roger's wife of 50 years, Lyda Mae (Lockman) McWhirter, passed away. Now they are back together in their heavenly home.
Roger is survived by his children, Cindi Williams and her husband, Dean, Ed Batman and his wife, Marcella, Kenny McWhirter and his wife, Rachel, Debbie Fortner and her husband, Gary, all of Floyds Knobs, Denise England and her husband, Jeff, of Marengo, IN, Roger Johnson and his wife, Lori, of Grand Forks, ND; sisters, Birdie E. Wilton & Bonnie Hardin and her husband, Earl; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Carlton J. McWhirter.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 19, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 10 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
