John Campbell King III, 67, of New Albany, Indiana, died peacefully at Green Valley Care Center in the company of family on November 30, 2022, after a long battle with cirrhosis of the liver. He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. King, Jr., and Clara (Plaiss) King.
He is survived by his favorite daughter, beloved sons, and nine grandchildren: Katie King, her husband Brandt Badger, and their four children Cole and Dess Badger and Lores and Woody King-Steury; Zachary Hedrick, his wife Cassie Green, and their two children Nazeer and Nyjah Green-Hedrick; and John Keltner, his wife Gretchen, and their three children Ilayah, Micah, and Abigail. He left behind a village of loved ones and caretakers, including his best friends and caregivers, Robin King, Ellen Barnes, Kris Rayzor, and Holli Hovious.
John was an Eagle Scout, a lover of playing sports, the outdoors, running, and running countless mini-marathons in his younger years. He was a lifelong, die-hard IU fan. More recently, he was a guitar player in the Mixed Nutz band and a beloved Pop-pop to his grandbabies.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Amethyst House, an addiction treatment center in Bloomington, Indiana (amethysthouse.org), or Hosparus Health Southern Indiana (hosparushealth.org) in John's honor for the loving care he received at the end of his life.
