John Charles Kahl, 74, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, February 2, 2024. John was a career mechanic and had been retired from Byrnes Garage where he had been employed for 38 years. John enjoyed the 32 years that he spent as USSSA umpire and over 50 years he spent bowling. John was a dedicated husband, father and papaw. Family always came first.
He was born on August 6, 1949 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Albert Kahl and Christina Burden Kahl. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sheila Kahl; and brothers, Rodger and Terry Kahl.
John is survived by his loving daughters, Shelly (Jeff) Nakken, and Jennifer (Shawn) Burton; companion, Carol Parson; siblings, Gwin (Judy) Kahl, Gwen (Steve) Farnsley, David (Lisa) Kahl, Robert (Chris) Kahl, Mickey (Pam) Kahl, Kathy (Richard) Litch, and Diane (Dewayne) Kahl; brother-in-law, Leroy (Edie) Berryman; grandchildren, Makenna, Kaytlin, Cole, Jacob, Tyler, Kellsie, Sarah, Josh, Brynden, Blaine, and Jake; and great-grandchildren, Gatlin Matthew.
Visitation will be from 12:02 pm to 2:02 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Memorial Service will be at 2:02 pm on Thursday, at the funeral home. Visitation will continue following his memorial service until 8:02 pm. Cremation was chosen following John's wishes.
