John Robert Hagest, Sr.

John Robert Hagest, Sr., 60, of Borden, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital on Friday, July 28, 2023. John was a 1981 graduate of Borden High School. He served as Vice President of the Town Council of Borden, Indiana; as well as President of Borden Tri-County Water Board and as a member of the REMC Election & Credentials Board. John was a proud employee of Dan Cristiani Excavating for the past 39 years. He served as an usher at St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church for many years. John also enjoyed working on his family's farm. He was known for hosting the annual Christmas party for family & friends and having the most brightly decorated home in town. Above all, John loved his family dearly and was very proud of them, especially his children and grandchildren.

He was born on December 29, 1962, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, to Robert and Dorothy (Kruzycki) Hagest. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Alvin Graf.

John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Beverly A. (Price) Hagest; son, John Robert (Tracie) Hagest, Jr.; son, Shawn Hagest; daughter, Amber M. (Allen Henderson) Hagest; grandsons, John August Hagest and Oliver D. Hagest; sister, Linda Graf; brother, Sam (Joyce) Hagest; sister, Cindy (Tom) Rudy; and many other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Hill Chapel 2605 St. Joe Road W., Sellersburg). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, at the chapel with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
