John E. Salzman, (83), of Louisville, passed away March 21, 2012.
John was born on August 31, 1928 in Dennison, MN. Following his service in the Korean War, John attended and graduated from Luther College. He married his beloved wife and lifelong friend Rosemary in 1958.
Following John's retirement from the A.C. Nielsen Company John became an avid golfer and gardener. In accordance with his Christian beliefs John sought to serve others, in particular children. John served as the Sunday School Director at St. John's Lutheran Church where he helped guide young people of all ages. In addition, John volunteered countless hours at the Salvation Army where he helped direct the Christmas toy drive to help ensure that as many children as possible could have a special Christmas. He was also volunteer of the year at the Salvation Army.
John is survived by his wife, Rosemary; two children, Mary Riley (Joseph) of Lexington, KY and John Salzman (Lisa McGee) of Louisville, KY; one sister Beverly Hatfield of Lakeland, FL and six grandchildren, Steven, Timothy, Christopher, Casey, Trevor and Katelyn. Preceeded in death by, parents John and Ingeborg Salzman, and three sisters, May Hinderaker, Pearl Johnson, and Patricia Olsen.
Funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 Breckinridge Lane. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial Expressions can be made to the Salvation Army.
