John Joseph Carpenter, 63, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2023. He was born in California on November 3, 1960 and immediately adopted by John and Dorothy Carpenter.
John attended Conway Middle School in Louisville, where he met the love of his life, Suzi Cloe. He played on the football and swim teams at Western High School in the 1970s. He served briefly but proudly as a medic in the United States Army as well as a volunteer firefighter in the 1980s. Raised Southern Baptist, John was a member of the Freemasons before converting to the Roman Catholic faith. John worked hard his entire life to support his family through numerous factory jobs and eventually retired at the rank of Major from a security company.
John loved horror and sci-fi movies. He participated in many pipe smoking contests at the Kentucky State Fair. He loved Classic Rock and was happiest listening to Bob Seger, The Eagles, Aerosmith, Journey, ZZTop, Hank Williams, Jr., Queen, Heart, and AC/DC, playing the air guitar along with the music. He played guitar in his youth and studied martial arts. Whenever he possibly could, he always made sure to attend important events in his daughter's life, from volleyball games to college graduations. He always gave the best and most sincere hugs and had the sharpest and crudest sense of humor. His greatest joy toward the end of his life was being able to hold and hear his grandsons and told his wife he loved her every single day. John touched many lives with his kindness and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Dorothy Louise Carpenter as well as his first grandchild and only granddaughter, Olivia Lynn Rose Brainer.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Suzi Carpenter; his daughter, Christina (Steven) Brainer; his grandsons, Asher and Jameson "Jamie" Brainer; and his daughter by choice and love, Lindsay Hardy.
