John Brown Canter, 76, of New Albany, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2019. John was a faithful member of First Church of God. He was very involved in the Emmaus/REC Community and spent many years as a boy scout leader. He loved camping at Blue River and enjoyed cooking chicken for Jacob's Chapel Church at Harvest Homecoming every year. John was the owner and operator of John Canter Cabinet Company in New Albany for over 30 years.
He was born on February 3, 1943, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Otto and Willie Houser Canter. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Lee Roark and Thomas Canter.
John is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Sampson Canter; children, Lisa Canter (Jeff) Lopp, Kevin (Heather) Canter, Earl (Jodi) Carroll, and Melissa Canter Martin; siblings, Houser Canter, Luci Canter Pope, and Janey Canter (Bill) Leohr; grandchildren, Kristen (Tommy) Hains, Erika (Shawn Austin) Lopp, Alexis Canter, Colton Canter, Zeb Carroll, Benjamin (Emma) Carroll, Michael Cissell, Elizabeth Canter (Will) Young, Jonathan Martin, and Grayson Martin; great-grandchildren, Zane Creedon and Grant Young; and his feline companion, Buster.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Additional visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, and his funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
