John Gregory Callahan, Jr. passed away on July 5, 2024 at Norton Audubon Hospital after admittance on June 15, 2024. He died from an unexpected side affect from an earlier surgery. He entered Hosparus care on July 1, 2024 and was attended by his wife of 56 years, Jennie Meredith Callahan until his passing.
John “Butch” Callahan was the son of John Gregory, Sr. and Lucille McClure Callahan. His survivors include his wife, Jennie Meredith Callahan, his sister, Ellen Vanover, (Gary-deceased), nieces, Andria Avis (Kevin-deceased) (Andrew and Amber), and Amy Burba (Kenny) (Michael and Mitchell), nephew, Greg Vanover (Lorie and her children), also cousin, Jim Herdt (Chris ward).
Butch retired from sales at the Lang Company after forty-one years. Later he worked part time at Toyota of Louisville as a shuttle driver. He and Jennie shared their loves of reading, traveling, and photography; especially New Orleans, Hilton Head, Charleston, and Savannah were often the subject of their photography. When at home relaxing, watch tennis on television, reading and listening to music were his favorite pastimes. He always had wintergreen mints in his pockets and to many he was known as the Mint Man.
Visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 11th at Newcomer Funeral Home (10304 Dixie Hwy). Immediately following the visitation there will be a service honoring Butch beginning at 1:00pm. He will be laid to rest after the service at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Oncology Education and Prevention Fund ( designated through the Norton Healthcare Foundation).
