John Franklin Burger, 79, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on September 3, 2023.
He graduated from New Albany High School in 1962. John would go on to work as a salesman for several companies, own or manage several small businesses, and become an accomplished auctioneer and appraiser. Later in his career, John worked as a Code Enforcement Officer for the City of New Albany. He took great pride in working to better his community. John also enjoyed tending to his garden and helping run the New Albany Farmers Market every Saturday.
He was born on August 1, 1944 in New Albany to the late James and Mildred (Taylor) Burger. John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sherrie (Martin) Burger; son, Corby Franklin Burger, Esq.; siblings, Myrta Rose (James), James Burger (Theresa); mother-in-law, Kathleen Sleadd; sister and brother-in-law, Laurie and Andrew Murphy; nieces and nephews, Legend Montgomery (Jennifer Bak), Destiny Montgomery (Joe Tripp), Vincent Rose (Dana), Dr. Sarah Rose (Dr. Will Sears), Sherry Staves; great-nephews, Hunter Rose, Theodore Sears, James Sears, Austin Staves; and his beloved cat, Binx.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with his funeral service taking place at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
