It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John E. Bender, a cherished soul of 71 years from Louisville, Kentucky, who departed this world on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
John graced this life on January 3, 1954, born to the late Francis and Doris (Collings) Bender. He leaves behind not only a legacy of love but also the memory of those who shared in his journey. John is welcomed into eternal peace by his grandson, Christopher Underwood, loving niece Chelsey Noe, devoted nephew CJ Schlenker, and beloved son-in-law Mike Yates.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 36 years, Wanda Bender, and their children: Samantha Bender, Jessica Downs, Amanda (Cory) Shell, David (Brittany) Downs, Jr., along with Patches Bender, Misty Bender, Autumn Bender, and Spring Yates. To these, he was not just a father but a source of steadfast support and love. John also had the joy of 47 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren who will carry his spirit forward. He is further survived by cherished siblings—including Jackie (Mike) Bartley, Debra (Harold) Davis, Rose (Roger) Billings, Robert Bender, Karen (Rick) Breeding, Kathleen (Andres) Gonzalez, Frank (Alicia) Bender, and Valarie (Kevin) Sharp—as well as three aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored him.
John embodied the idea of hard work and dedication. His roles as a Fork Lift Driver for the KY State Fairgrounds and My Scratch and Dent, along with his tenure in security at JSP, revealed his strong work ethic. Yet, beyond his labor, it was his vibrant spirit and infectious sense of humor that truly defined him. John loved nothing more than gathering with family, creating joyful memories with his grandchildren, casting a line while fishing, working on cars, and unwinding amid the majestic scenery of the Smoky Mountains.
As we gather to honor his memory, the visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm on Wednesday, March 26th, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions—Southwest Louisville Chapel, followed by a service at 1:30 pm. He will then find his resting place at Resthaven Memorial Park.
The family kindly requests contributions be made to assist with final expenses, ensuring John's legacy continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those he loved. We invite everyone touched by John's life to share a memory or convey a message to his family through the guestbook below, celebrating the joyful spirit and the unending love he imparted to us all.
