John Arthur Ashton, 78, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023. He was a 1963 graduate of New Albany High School, where he played basketball and ran track. John would go on to receive a scholarship to play basketball for Indiana State University.
He served in the Army Reserves and retired from Ford Motor Company after 34 years. After retirement, John enjoyed boating on Patoka Lake, traveling to his favorite beach, Sanibel Island, Florida, and spending time around the pool with his family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and liked playing euchre. John was a kind and gentle man who lived life to his fullest.
He was born on July 23, 1945 to the late John and Genevieve (Kron) Ashton. John is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Janis (Walter) Ashton; children, Jennifer Horan (Cam), John "Tye" Ashton (Diane); grandchildren, Lyndsay Carr, Ethan Ashton, Connor Horan, Genevieve Horan; great-grandson, Jude Garner; and sisters, Gloria Garriott (Jerry), Gail Fagan (Steve, deceased) and Gwen Fromme (Ken). He will be greatly missed.
John's wish was to be cremated and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) was entrusted with his care. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart or the American Lung Association.
