John Albert Lewis

October 12, 1968 — November 5, 2024

Louisville, KY

On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, God picked a lovely flower from his garden, John Albert Lewis. John was born October 12, 1968, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital in McDowell, Kentucky. He was the first-born son of Albert John Lewis and Marilyn Lesia Lewis. John was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, father, husband, brother-in-law, and friend.

John accepted Christ at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church, Wheelwright, Kentucky. He later rededicated his life, was baptized and became an active member of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky and remained a member until God called him home.

John graduated high school from Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. After high school, John graduated from University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky, where he earned a degree in Finance. He was an avid UK fan, despite his many UL family members. His family, in honor of John, for the first time ever cheered, and said, “GO CATS, Beat Duke at the last UK game.”

John united in marriage to Laura Rein, from this union Zada Grace Lewis was born. John’s first job was manager of Jelly Bean Restaurant in Lexington, Kentucky. He later became a sales representative for Southern Wines and Spirits in Louisville, Kentucky.

John leaves to mourn his parents, Al and Lesia Lewis; his daughter, Zada Grace Lewis; brother, Brian Lewis; and sisters, Allison Lewis-Yates. (Ben), Charleigh Sloane Vivian Yates (His only niece whom he adored and loved); aunts and uncles, Jackie Watson, Ricky Lewis, Wilma Pleasant, Julia Lewis, Barbara Lewis, Denise Johnson, and Christine Lewis (John’s Extended Mothers), Renee Calhoun, Almeda Gaddis, Sharon Barnes , Sandy James, April Barnes,  Sean Pleasant, and Tonik Pleasant; cousin, Tiah Johnson; and a host of other cousins and friends.

Preceded in death, his loving paternal grandparents,  Albert Lee “Shine” and Nell Lewis who were instrumental in raising him in becoming the man that we all knew and loved; maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Willie Watson, uncle, Willie Watson Jr; grandmother, Ruby Glover; and aunts, Eloise Lewis and Neta Barnes.

His memory will live in the hearts of his family forever!
