Johanna (Gregory) Lambert, 89, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022. She retired after a career in teaching from West Washington School Corporation.
She was born on July 27, 1933 in Cementville, Indiana to Fred and Mary (Fisher) Gregory. In addition to her parents, Johanna was preceded in death by her husband, Don Lambert; and sisters, Patricia Brummett and Jean Knehans.
Johanna is survived by her daughters, Jean Schmisseur (Rodney), JoAnne Early (Scott); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jax, Michael; and many nieces and nephews.
Johanna played college basketball at Spalding University. She was instrumental in starting a Special Olympics team at The Crusade Center (now Blue River Services) in Palmyra, Indiana. Johanna taught Special Education at West Washington school Corporation for 29 years, became an autism specialist and was involved with many student activities. She coached Varsity Volleyball for 13 years at WWHS as well.
Johanna was a lover of life - vacationing with family & friends, parasailing, white water rafting, and boating. She served as a Chaperone on several local high school trips overseas. She also loved hosting dinners and card parties. Johanna loved sports in general but especially IU and UofL volleyball, basketball and football. She was Involved in many professional organizations and clubs.
Johanna had season tickets to the Louisville ballet for many years and had taken up line dancing in her 70s. She was always on the go and was known for her red lipstick and sparkly earrings.
Johanna loved her church family at Livonia Presbyterian Church where she attended church since the early 1970s.
Johanna's wish was to be cremated and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) was entrusted with her care. A gathering of her family and friends to celebrate her life will be announced in April of 2023.
