Jo Ann Boyles

May 5, 1930 — December 7, 2023

Jo Ann Wall Boyles, age 93, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on December 7th, 2023, at last reunited with her Lord, whom she had faithfully served throughout her life.

She was born on May 5th, 1930, in her grandparents' home in rural Hopkinsville, KY. Soon after her birth, the family relocated to Louisville, KY. Hopkinsville was a place to which she returned often………in good times and bad. Here she would experience the love and devotion of family, shaping her into the
kind and caring person we all knew.

At age 14, she accepted Christ as her Savior in the Ormsby Ave. Church of Christ. Her faith journey led her to serve in various roles at Walnut Street Baptist Church for 50 years. In her later years she attended Westport Road Baptist and The Chapel in the Woods.

She graduated from Louisville Girls High School in 1948 and went on to attend Georgetown College in Kentucky, later transferring to Tampa University and then graduating from the University of Florida in 1952 with a degree in elementary education. On June 21st, 1952, she married the love of her life, Curtis Leo Boyles.

After teaching for 2 years, they began their family and placed their focus on family and church. She returned to teaching in 1967 at Jane Hite Elementary leading to 20 memorable years and endearing friendships. Jo Ann remained active throughout her life enjoying square dancing, swimming, traveling, jazzercise, visiting with children and grandchildren, singing in Anchor Choir, participating in activities at her church, and listening to a variety of music.

Known for her love of music, she sang and "danced" engaging all those around her, regardless of the situation. Her sense of humor amused us all and proved that her personality remained despite the decades of Alzheimer's Disease. Her kind demeanor, generosity, and gratefulness are the legacy she has left for her
family.

Jo Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Leo Boyles, her brother, Don Wall, and granddaughter, Heather Busby. She is survived by 4 children: Gayle McCullough (Chuck), Laurie Holmes (Michael), Greg Boyles, and Scott Boyles (Linda); 10 grandchildren: Erin Oliver, Hannah Warren, Seth Holmes, Jonathan Holmes, Katie Aznarez, David McCullough, Paige McClure, Christina Boyles, Joshua Boyles, Timothy Boyles, Rachel Boyles and 17 great grandchildren.

We are eternally indebted to the many kind and loving caregivers at HeartSong and especially Janet Wender and Tabitha Allen. Their love, devotion, prayers, and care of our mother carried us through many trying days. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
