Jo Ann (Oldom) Carmickle, 80, of New Albany, Indiana died on July 28, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was a long-time member of Wesley Chapel where she had been involved in the Mary Martha Circle. Jo Ann enjoyed working puzzles, cross stitching, as well as collecting elephants of all shapes and sizes.
JoAnn was born on September 5, 1933 in New Albany to the late Harry and Emma (Baggerly) Oldom. She was also recently preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard D. Carmickle; son, Richard D. Carmickle Jr.; brother, Paul "Bud" Oldom; great grandson, Dexter Rawley Sharp; son-in-law, Larry Elliott; and brother-in-law, Kenny Schad.
She is survived by her children, Donald Lee Carmickle (Peggy), Cathy Ann Sharp, Linda Sue Elliott, Robert Earl Carmickle (Megan), Mervil Louis Carmickle (Leslie); sister, Carol Schad; 16 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Friday after 11 AM. Her Funeral Service will take place on Friday at 1 PM in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
