Jerry E. Herron, Sr.

September 2, 1943 — February 22, 2023

Jerry E. Herron Sr., 79, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

He was born on September 2, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky to Louis and Mary (Clemmons) Herron. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Louis M. Herron, Jr.
Jerry held many jobs throughout his life, but retired in 2005 from Brown Forman (Bluegrass Cooperage) after 39 years of service as a Cooper. When asked by a foreman how he could come to work in white t-shirt and leave with it just as white he'd reply, "I came to work, I didn't come to get dirty." While Jerry didn't finish school traditionally, he returned and received his G.E.D. in 1991, of which he was incredibly proud. However, of all of his accomplishments in life, he would happily tell you that becoming a father was his greatest. His home was always full of laughter, love and children including those he adopted and some that he fostered. Throughout the years his house became a second home to neighborhood children, his children's friends, and anyone else who just needed an ear, hug or friend, he truly never met a stranger. Of his many hobbies and interests, his favorites included being with friends and family, card games, bowling, fishing, horse racing and flipping channels back and forth between a movie, two shows and the TVG Channel. Aside from this, he loved piling all the children in the back of the truck for road trips, camping, and drive-in movies. An avid fisherman, he'd happily take anyone with him, but he'd always say, "you have to bait your own hook".

Jerry is survived by his loving children, Debbie Cherry, Brenda (Billy) Meek, Jerry E. Herron, Jr., Joseph (Annie) Herron, Carol F. Hendren, Anna C. (Don) Benberry and Anita Herron, 16 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, siblings, Billy (Connie) Herron, Sr., Betty (Paul) Matthews, Marie (Leslie) Hardin and Gloria Young, along with a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, March 4th at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 5:00 pm on Saturday, at the funeral home.
