Jerry Dale Wooten, 72, of Louisville, KY passed away on April 24, 2014. He was owner-operator truck driver for more than 35 years and was a Deacon and Trustee of Hazelwood Baptist Church. Jerry was a proud Army Veteran, serving from 1960 to 1963, including two years in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. He was a Free Mason of Abraham Lodge #8, Shriner, and member of the Scottish Rite. Jerry was a loving supporter of the Sons of Liberty gospel music group. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR, and UK Wildcat basketball, but most enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Jerry was born on February 25, 1942, in Glasgow, KY to the late Sammie and Edna (Cheatam) Wooten. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Phyllis and Larry Wooten; and sister, Carolyn Oakes.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce (Shoopman) Wooten; son, Jeffery Wooten (Carol), daughter, Jerri Lynn Owen (Anthony); eight grandchildren, Liz, Jacob, Willow, Kirsten, Sequoia, Hilton, Bradley, and Kirk; brother, Sammy Wooten Jr.; sister, Margie Kearney; beloved friend of 55+ years, Clifford White; and many loving extended family members.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, April 25, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy) and continue from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Hazelwood Baptist Church (4201 Taylor Blvd) with funeral ceremony beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
