Jerry "Ump" Cheatham, 67, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for over 15 years at General Electric until his retirement. Jerry had a passion for umpiring, which he did on all levels, from little league all the way to semi-pro baseball.
He was born on February 5, 1950, to the late John T. Cheatham and Vera L. (Riley) Lackey. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jim Porter; and twin brother, Larry Cheatham.
Jerry is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Janice (Rager) Cheatham; daughter, Melissa Longest (Michael); son, John Cheatham (Bobbie); 7 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
