Jerry Thomas Baker, 79, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Jerry was a proud member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany, Indiana. He enjoyed UK Basketball, golfing, bowling, grilling, the beach, and most importantly spending time with family.
He was born on March 22, 1945, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Larry Thomas Baker and Alverna Joyce (Brown) Coomes. After high school, Jerry went to college and became an accountant. On April 5, 1966, Jerry entered into the United States Navy in Owensboro, Kentucky, where he rose to the rank of HM3. While serving in the Vietnam War, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia, Bronze Star Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged from active duty on January 6, 1970. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances Baker; son, Michael Baker; son, Jason Baker; daughter, Stacey Baker; grandchildren, Sydney Roberts, Tristen Baker, and Hannah Schwartz; and great-grandson, Tucker Schwartz.
The family of Jerry wishes to give a special thank you to the staff and doctors of Autumn Woods Health Campus and Hosparus Health for the amazing care they provided.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church, in New Albany with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville. A comfort meal will follow at Holy Family Parish at 1:30 p.m.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Wounded Warriors and Hosparus Health in Jerry’s memory.
